Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to analyze how the influence of socio-familial factors, such as educational level and marital status, and family responsibilities, affect economic decisions and sustainability practices in artisanal fishing within the ASAECAPA-Huacho association. Methods: Using an observational and cross-sectional design, 27 fishermen were selected through stratified sampling based on educational level and marital status. Data were collected through structured questionnaires, validated by experts, and subjected to psychometric analysis. Results: The results revealed a significant positive correlation between educational level and the adoption of sustainable practices, with fishermen with higher education being more likely to implement them. Likewise, married fishermen showed greater participation in community sustainability programs. Notably, 100% of participants reported having adopted sustainable practices after receiving training, suggesting high environmental awareness or possible response saturation. Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of educational and familial factors in promoting sustainability in artisanal fishing, supporting the implementation of policies that encourage educational opportunities and strengthen family and community structures to improve the sustainability of artisanal fishing in Huacho and similar regions.
