Abstract

Objective: To describe the level of positive maternality and parenthood and its dimensions—behavioral modeling, educational involvement, emotional support, limits and expectations, and parenting style—among students of the Social Work Professional School at the José Faustino Sánchez Carrión National University. Methodology: A quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental, and cross-sectional study was conducted. The population comprised 360 students; the stratified sample included 187 participants. The Positive Maternality and Parenthood Scale (PMPS) was applied, developed by the research team and validated through reliability analysis and expert judgment. Results: Overall, 77% of participants scored at medium-high levels of positive maternality and parenthood, while 23% were at a low-level requiring priority intervention. By dimension, behavioral modeling showed the greatest deficit (49% at low level), followed by educational involvement (39% low) and emotional support (30% low). The highest scores were recorded for limits and expectations (19% low) and parenting style (39% high). Conclusions: University students who exercise maternality and parenthood display a dual profile: medium-high overall competencies alongside specific vulnerabilities in socioemotional and behavioral modeling dimensions, identifying priority areas for intervention programs in higher education settings.
