Attitudes and perceptions towards virtual teaching in language courses in graduate students

Abstract

Objective: The study analyzed attitudes and perceptions toward virtual teaching in foreign language courses among postgraduate students. Methods: Its approach was quantitative, taking as a sample 50 students who were given a questionnaire about their experience in virtual mode during the period from December 2023 to March 2024. The results reported that in general 94% perceive virtual teaching as effective, highlighting the interactivity between teachers and classmates, the usability/ease of use of the application and the quality of the course content as elements that impacted their satisfaction. Results: The results in correlational terms showed a positive correlation between satisfaction with virtual learning and academic performance (r = 0.56), which indicates that students who evaluated the modality with higher scores also have favorable academic results. It was observed that the favorable appreciation of virtual teaching is also associated with previous experience in the use of virtual platforms. Conclusion: It was concluded that virtual teaching in language courses at the UNJFSC graduate school is perceived as effective, and is determined by the digital tools used, the support of help and guidance to students from teachers.
