Breeding activity of Charadrius vociferus (Linnaeus 1758, killdeer) at the Jorge Chávez international airport expansion, Callao, Peru

Objective: To study the reproductive activity of Charadrius vociferus "screaming plover" in the expansion of the Jorge Chavez International Airport, Callao, Peru. Methodology: 20 observation points equidistant at 200m each was monitored approximately every week between May 2022 and April 2023, characterizing the nest and the hatching success of the species. Results: A total of 18 nests were recorded with an average of 3 to 4 eggs per nest. An average reproductive success rate of 90.32% was observed. The egg-laying period (breeding period) of the species was between July to December 2022. Conclusions: The first report of the reproductive activity of Charadrius vociferus (Linnaeus, 1758) "screaming plover" in the Callao region is presented, which occurs between July to December with a hatching success of 90.32%.Downloads
