Abstract

Objective: To monitor the presence of microplastics in sediments at Chorrillos beach, Huacho. Methodology: The study area was located at Chorrillos beach, district of Huacho, province of Huaura, department of Lima, Peru. Five sediment monitoring surveys were carried out, 6 points in the middle zone and 6 points in the upper zone were sampled per survey to determine the weight and shape of microplastics, which were analyzed in the laboratory and the data were entered into the Excel program. Results: In the first monitoring a weight of 6,7665g was obtained, in the second 1,8249g, in the third 1,0716g, in the fourth 0,8178g and in the fifth 0,9321g. In forms, 2% of fibers, 12% of pellets, 63% of fragments, 17% of sheets and 6% of sponges were obtained. Conclusion: There are microplastics in the sediments of Playa Chorrillos de Huacho, the most common being secondary microplastics and the predominant form fragments, mainly due to anthropogenic activities.
